Presidents Stall

The calendar says the first day of spring is March 20th. But I don't feel like its spring until the robins appear, the peepers start making noise and the buds on the trees make a showing. And the warm weather gives me a hankering for fun on the trails with all my MTRA friends. The riding season starts out this year with the Bingham and Jay Rides this month. You can find details inside.

Horses and riders get to show off all their moves at our Fun Show held on May 3rd (rain date May 4th). Please remember that we need volunteers for the show; in the kitchen, gate-keepers, and ring crew. We need lots of help to make our show a success.

The juniors held their work bee and did some great work. Dana Lary dragged the ring (thank you Dana) and I hear it looks great. The juniors had a practice at the MTRA show ring to practice for the fun show. They had a lot of fun learning the different games, the bigger kids mentored the smaller ones and everyone was fed by Nancy....now that’s a great day! I hope to see you all at the show.

All the best, Julie

Tip of the Month

Information found under the Tip of the Month may be on the Junior Test at the end of the year.

Safety in numbers- In addition to the company it provides, riding with a friend is a good idea because help is at your side should you need it. However, if you do have to ride alone, be sure to let someone know where you are going and how long you’ll be gone. If you need help, this information will help rescuers find you more easily.

Equine Tips

In case you ever wondered but never asked:

Horses have a unique ability to see quite well in the dark. In fact, they have better night vision than humans. Horses have one of the largest eyes of any land animal. Their large retinas are capable of magnifying images twice as much as people’s eyes do. The horse retina also is a large reflection panel that helps gather all available night light. So don’t be scared to enjoy a night ride once in a while as long as the trail has been checked ahead of time for holes, wire fencing or other dangers.

A Little Saddle Humor

Two 90-year-old women, Rose and Barb, had been friends all of their lives.
When it was clear that Rose was dying, Barb visited her every day. One day Barb said, 'Rose, we both loved riding horses all our lives. Please do me one favor. When you get to Heaven,
somehow you must let me know if there's horseback riding there.'
Rose looked up at Barb from her deathbed and said, 'Barb, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favor or you.'
Shortly after that, Rose passed on.
At midnight a few nights later, Barb was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to her, 'Barb, Barb!'
'Who is it?' asked Barb, sitting up suddenly.
'Who is it?' 'Barb - -it's me, Rose.'
'You're not Rose. Rose just died.'
'I'm telling you, it's me, Rose,' insisted the voice. 'Rose! Where are you?'
'In Heaven,' replied Rose. 'I have some really good news and a little bad news.'
'Tell me the good news first,' said Barb
'The good news,' Rose said, 'is that there's horseback riding in Heaven. Better yet, all of our old buddies who died before us are here, too. Better than that, we're all young again.
Even better still, it's always springtime, and it never rains or snows. And best of all, we can ride all we want, and we never get tired.'
'That's fantastic,' said Barb. 'It's beyond my wildest dreams! So what's the bad news?'
'You're scheduled to lead the trail ride up here next Tuesday.'
